HRD and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)
Sue Knight
One way of thinking about Human Resource Development is that it is our commitment to continuously develop to realise our true potential as a human being to achieve goals that are successful for ourselves, our teams, our families, our organisations, our communities and the world at large. And yet the only element in all of this that we can change is ourselves. Nevertheless in the way that we manage our change and our growth we influence everyone with whom we come into contact and we influence the results we achieve in everything we do. It is our ability to do this with skill and sensitivity to both ourselves and to others that is the differentiating factor in the degree of what we achieve and the extent to which we realise our true potential.
Personal mastery in our skill in making the best choices in all the situations we face is at the heart of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). We often all to well know what we want to achieve the question is 'how' do we do it. NLP provides the experiences through which you can find the unique answer for you and all the bigger systems of which you are a part. NLP is the study of the way we think and use language both verbal and non verbal in the way we programme ourselves usually without conscious thought to achieve the results that we get. By increasing our conscious awareness of how we do what we do we begin to get more choice in finding what truly makes the difference in what we do today and for what we want to do tomorrow. This is the how of Human Resource Development.
